About this number

The policy rate is the rate at which the State Bank lends to banks overnight, set by the Monetary Policy Committee every six to eight weeks. Everything else follows it: KIBOR, car and home loan rates, and the return on savings accounts. A cut of one point lowers a Rs 5 million home loan instalment by roughly Rs 3,000 to 4,000 a month.

Questions people ask

When is the next SBP monetary policy?
The MPC publishes its calendar for the year on sbp.org.pk; meetings are roughly every six to eight weeks and the decision is announced the same afternoon.
How does the policy rate affect my loan?
Bank loans are priced at KIBOR plus a spread, and KIBOR moves with the policy rate within days, so your next repricing follows the decision.
