Estimate your monthly Sui gas bill from meter units (m³) or hm³ using the OGRA domestic slabs for SNGPL and SSGC, protected and non-protected rates, fixed charges, meter rent and 18% GST.

Version 1.0.0. Inputs: Gas consumed this month, Consumer category, Gas calorific factor.

## Worked example (default inputs)

- Gas consumed this month: 60 m³
- Consumer category: protected
- Gas calorific factor: 0.0355 MMBTU per m³

**Estimated gas bill: Rs 1,509**

60 m³ (0.6 hm³ ≈ 2.13 MMBTU) at the protected rate of Rs 300/MMBTU comes to Rs 639, plus Rs 600 fixed charge and Rs 40 meter rent; with 18% GST the bill is about Rs 1,509.

### Breakdown

- Gas charge: 2.13 MMBTU × Rs 300: Rs 639
- Fixed charge: Rs 600
- Meter rent: Rs 40
- GST 18%: Rs 230
- Total: Rs 1,509
- Cost per m³ (all-in): Rs 25

### Slab table

- 0 – 0.25 hm³: Rs 200 / MMBTU
- 0.25 – 0.5 hm³: Rs 250 / MMBTU
- 0.5 – 0.6 hm³: Rs 300 / MMBTU ← you
- 0.6 – 0.9 hm³: Rs 350 / MMBTU

## How it is calculated

OGRA sets domestic gas prices per **MMBTU** in consumption slabs of **hm³** (100 m³) per month. Your meter reads m³; the bill converts to MMBTU with the gas calorific value (about 0.0355 MMBTU per m³) and charges the **whole consumption at the slab it falls in**, so one extra unit at a boundary can raise the rate on every unit (a "previous-slab protection" rule limits the jump).

**Protected consumers** (under 0.9 hm³ in each of the last four months) pay Rs 200–350/MMBTU with a Rs 600 fixed charge. **Non-protected** consumers pay Rs 500–4,200/MMBTU with a fixed charge of Rs 1,500 (≤ 1.5 hm³) or Rs 3,000. Meter rent is Rs 40 and GST 18% applies to the total. These prices took effect 1 July 2025 and were left unchanged in the July 2026 review.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is a protected gas consumer?**

A domestic connection that used less than 0.9 hm³ (90 m³) in each of the previous four months. It is billed at much lower slab rates and a Rs 600 fixed charge. One month above 0.9 hm³ moves you to non-protected for the next four.

**Why did my gas bill double in winter?**

Heaters and geysers push consumption into higher slabs, and because the whole month's gas is billed at that slab's rate, the per-unit price jumps too, and the fixed charge rises above 1.5 hm³.

**How do I convert m³ to MMBTU?**

Multiply by the GCV factor on your bill (about 0.0355). 100 m³ ≈ 3.55 MMBTU.

**Is this the same for SNGPL and SSGC?**

Yes: OGRA notifies one domestic tariff for both; only the calorific factor differs slightly by region.
